Winning the FA cup, what’s next for Erik Ten Hag?

After a roller coaster of a season, Manchester United has finally clinched the FA cup trophy the second trophy they have under Erik Ten Hag after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the FA cup final in Wembley.

Manchester United’s performance at the FA cup final

Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 in a cool evening at Wembley after goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo and an assist from the captain Bruno Fernandes in the first half of the final making it the 2nd trophy won by club under the Dutch coach and the club’s 13th FA cup win in history only behind Arsenal’s number of the cup’s win. Jeremy Doku scored in the 87th minute to attempt a come back but the Manchester United players stayed calm throughout and managed to finish the match with a trophy as they head back to Old Trafford making it the 71st major trophy the club has won in its existence also cementing the club’s position as the most decorated club in England.

Europe here we come!!!

Manchester United’s win could only mean one thing – the club is heading to Europe, they will be in the Europa league to replace Chelsea who finished 6th on the table due to UEFA’s rule. Manchester United scored again from Marcus Rashford which was ruled out due to offside and Manchester United

Manchester United win is the first trophy for most of the youth players in the club including Kobbie Mainoo, Andre Onana among the likes. This will definitely bolster the squad’s mentality and hopefully help with Bruno Fernandes whose contract situation is yet to be resolved. For the first time this season, Erik Ten Hag has been able to partner Rapheal Varane and Lisandro Martinez together which makes us think, will things have been different if the players were not injured for the most part of the season?

The overall squad and players were very good and impactful but among the best players of the match are Bruno Fernandes, Rapheal Varane, Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo. Manchester United held less of the ball allowing Manchester City hold as much as 75+% of the possession and relying on the counter attack which proved to be impactful as many are praising Erik Ten Hag new tactical approach to maximize the squad’s potential.

Leave or stay Erik Ten Hag?

Before the match, at United’s last match at Old Trafford, the coach promised to things- to get 3 points and to win the FA cup trophy both of which they were able to accomplish being a testament of how Erik Ten Hag has been shaping the players tactically and mentally.

Reports from previous news indicated that Erik Ten Hag’s job is not safe no matter the result of the FA cup final but with his masterclass tactical approach  to defeat Pep Guardiola, there can only be positives to take away from the match as Manchester United owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazers are  both in the stands to watch the team secure victory which begets the question stay or leave Erik Ten Hag?
