Erik ten Hag put speculation over his future to one side by leading Manchester United to FA Cup glory with a stunning 2-1 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley. Despite reports suggesting United had decided to part company with the Dutchman regardless of the result, Ten Hag’s tactical masterclass and his team’s determination secured a thrilling win.

Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph over rivals Manchester City at Wembley was a dramatic and emotional rollercoaster. But the bigger question remained: Did this victory secure Erik ten Hag’s future as manager, or was it a glorious farewell?

Teenage Thrills and Tactical Masterclass

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, two academy graduates, put United in a commanding 2-0 lead thanks to a calamitous City mistake and a well-worked team move. Ten Hag’s tactical approach, focusing on compactness and shutting down City’s midfield, stifled the usual free-flowing champions.

Manchester City tried to find a way back into the game in the second half, but Erling Haaland’s strike rattled the crossbar before Andre Onana twice kept out long-range efforts from Kyle Walker. However, Onana couldn’t keep out substitute Jeremy Doku’s strike as City pulled a goal back in the 87th minute to set up a grandstand finish.

The second half saw a familiar City resurgence. Substitute Jeremy Doku pulled one back, raising the Specter of United’s past collapses. However, this time, the Red Devils held firm, weathering City’s storm and securing the FA Cup for the 13th time.

A Glorious Wembley Day

This wonderful win over the four-time Premier League champions was almost routine in comparison to United’s previous FA Cup matches. They lost a two-goal lead before beating League Two Newport County in the fourth round, secured a dramatic 4-3 win against Liverpool in the quarter-final, and avoided serious embarrassment in the semi-final, giving up a 3-0 advantage to Championship side Coventry City.

Erik Ten Hag’s Future in Doubt

United’s season was a mixed bag. While they lifted the FA Cup, a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League left many fans frustrated. Erik Ten Hag’s detractors pointed to a lack of strategic consistency and a leaky defense conceding a club-record 58 league goals.

When asked about his future after the game, Erik Ten Hag said: “I don’t know. All I can do is prepare my team, develop my team, progress my team. This is a project. When I came in it was a mess, now we are better. But we are by far where we want to be.” The question remains as to whether Erik Ten Hag will lead United into next season.

Erik Ten Hag countered these criticisms by highlighting the limitations he inherited. He emphasized the need for a squad rebuild, pointing to a long injury list and a lack of depth. The club’s structure and recruitment policies also came under scrutiny, potentially giving Ten Hag more leverage in future discussions.

A Season of Frustration

This season has been a poor one for United, finishing eighth in a 38-game season with a negative goal difference. It has, for the most part, been abysmal. If the end does arrive, Ten Hag will always have Wembley, but he will also have a sense of ‘what if?’. What if more of these players had been available all season and what if he had made the kind of tactical compromises that came on Saturday earlier in the season?

Fifteen months ago, ErikTen Hag danced with Lisandro Martinez on the Wembley pitch. This time their celebrations were more guttural. A day that could have ended with Ten Hag getting the sack instead ended with him hoisting the FA Cup into the sky at a sun-lit Wembley. Whether or not it is enough to save Ten Hag is another matter.

Fans React to FA Cup Win

Erik ten Hag went into the FA Cup final with the growing expectation that he will be sacked as manager by Manchester United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe – irrespective of the outcome. But some fans streaming out of Wembley after United’s impressive 2-1 win over Manchester City insisted: Ten Hag must stay.

“It’ll be heartbreaking if he goes,” Daniel Simpson told BBC Sport. “All we’ve done since Sir Alex Ferguson left is chop and change the manager. When is it all going to end?”

There you have it, Folks. What is the thought on Erik Ten Hag’s future at United (Below is the comment Section, we would like to know your view).
