Manchester United Captain and star player, Bruno Fernandes has been a major topic for discussion as the player has 18 months on his contract before he can speak with other clubs. Bruno Fernandes signed for Manchester United on January 2020 from Sporting for a fee reportedly up to 68 million Euros. Bruno Fernandes signed a 4 year contract extension with the club which will keep him in Manchester until 2026 and by July 2023, he was named Manchester United captain replacing Harry Maguire in the captaincy role. In January 2024, he was offered a 100 million Euros contract from Saudi club Al-Hilal which he declined due to his love for Manchester United, it’s fair to say Bruno Fernandes has been a Club faithful. The player is also on a 230k Euros per week which is less than the salary of some of his competitors. For context, Kevin De Bruyne reportedly earns up to 400k Euros weekly

BRUNO AND TEN HAG INTERVIEW ON THE PLAYER’S CONTRACT SITUATION

When asked about the situation of the skipper, Coach Erik Ten Hag claims he is confident that Bruno Fernandes will remain in the club after the transfer window which is set to open in June claiming that “the player is an important player for the club and Manchester United can’t afford to let him go. He’s very happy here as he’s an example for the young players”. Bruno Fernandes on his part when askled about the situation of his contract gave a cryptic reply keeping an open ground on the situation Fernandes told Sky Sports, “I feel that the club wants me to be a part of the future, so, as I said always, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to have

“If for some reason they don’t want to have me, I will go, but if they want me I will stay.” living a lot of fans in bewilderment on what the player really mean with this statement. 

BRUNO SITUATION WITH MANCHESTER UNITED TAKEOVER IMMITENT

As Manchester United prepare for  a takeover, one of the points that must be quickly addressed by the new administration is the contract of the Manchester United captain. This may not be easy as new caretakers INEOS wants to make radical changes including not offering players high wages and also reduce the power in the dressing room. According to multiple reports, they (INEOS) wants to create a new set of hierarchy in the club, this has been seen in multiple changes in the sporting including the club’s CEO and Director of Football being replaced. They would be willing to offer Bruno similar contract to the player to the one the 31 year old is currently running on. 

INTERESTS FROM OTHER CLUB INTENSIFIES IN BRUNO FERNANDES

Holding on to Bruno Fernandes won’t be easy as European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan showing their interest in signing the player for any fee. At this point, the player will have to choose between holding onto his love for the club and moving to a club with better Sporting project and financial terms.
